Question
Hello,
I'm wondering who! started USA Boxing, and why? is the sport fading away?  Any comments.

Answer
Amateur boxing has been around in the United States for over 100 years.  It was administered by the AAU until 1978, at which time it was separated into its own national governing body, the USA/ABF.  The name has since been changed to USA Boxing.  I don't believe the sport is fading away.  The numbers of gyms and athletes go up and down in various areas in the U.S. - some due to lack of interest, others because the sport is seasonal only.  There are many areas in America where amateur boxing is flourishing on a year round basis.  I think the biggest problem is lack of interest from the average boxing fan - most of whom want to see the pros beat each other into the canvas.
