Question
For years I've heard stories about my father Harold O. Meads having been a Lightweight Contender.  He fought in the 30's and early 40's until a little 102 pound woman (mother) made him quit.  I've found seveal clippings indicating his success especially when he was fighting in the army during the war. He fought under the name of Tiger Meads. The clippings that I have are from the Augusta, GA area.    I do know that he and Beau Jack were good friends and sparing partners from time to time.  This was not hear-say, Beau Jack told me personally.  I also have a letter in my files from him to my father indicating their friendship.
Thank you, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Harold,

Thanks for the question.

I was unable to find information on Harold O. Meads or Tiger Meads at www.boxrec.com, which has comprehensive records on professional boxers. However, if your father was boxing in the army, there is a good chance he probably was competing as an amateur, or in exhibitions. Those bouts would not have been recorded officially. It sounds as if he developed a strong reputation, though, if a great champion like Beau Jack was sparring with him!
Sorry I couldn't help more, but if you come across more or different information, let me know and I can take another crack at it.

Thanks again for writing, Harold.
Regards,
Lian
