Question
I am trying to buy boxing gloves for my boyfriend.  He's never boxed before, but wants to try to get in to it pretty seriously.  I have no idea what size to get for him though.  He is 6'4'', 200 lbs.  His hands are pretty big, but not huge.  If you could give me some hints on what size and weight to get him, I wouold greatly appreciate it!

Answer
HI Kaylee,

There are many types and styles of boxing gloves.  Look at the links below:

http://store.titleboxing.com/gloves.html

You will notice two basic styles: the quick release wrist strap training gloves and the lace up models. The key is knowing what and where he will train. If he will be alone in a home area or solitary place, he may do better with the Quick Release type http://store.titleboxing.com/title-classic-boxing-gloves.html that is easy on an off by yourself. The lacing up styles are slightly more complicated.

It is also helpful to know that most boxing gyms have gloves for training with the Bags, and separate gloves for hitting people in the Ring. YOu very seldom see someone using their actualy sparring gloves for hitting bags.

I would stay with the LARGE size. A little too large is better than a little too small, for you can always use the extra room in the glove to use hand wraps, which support the bones more.

Good luck with your choice and stick with the higher quality materials if you can afford it.

thanks and my best to his safe training.

sincerely,
