Question
I would like to get involved with boxing and become a judge in CA.  What is the process for becoming a judge, and where can I get information about attending on of the clinics for judges in CA?  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Gil,

Thanks for the question.

Currently, the California State Athletic Commission is disbanded. There is a state senate bill to reconstitute the commission, but I'm not sure where that is in the legislative process.
At any rate, boxing is still being regulated by a government entity in the Department of Consumer Affairs.

You'll want to contact either Armando Garcia or Rebecca Alvarez at the link I'm providing below, to get information on any future clinics, or what new processes may be under discussion for becoming an official in California.

Here's the web address with contact info: http://www.dca.ca.gov/csac/

I hope this helps, Gil.

Thanks again for writing!

Regards,
Lian

I can answer questions regarding rules for both pro and amateur boxing; upcoming bouts; fight analysis/predictions; various other questions. I am an experienced amateur boxing official with USA Boxing (14 years) and I have completed a yearlong professional officials` clinic with the California State Athletic Commission.
