Question
I practice alot, I might not always be throwing punches but Ill stay active.  I've recently been working on my uppercuts.  I dedicated August to be uppercut month. I went to a fighting studio for a few lessons.  I wanted to learn proper techniques to practice, but they didnt know much about boxing and were more martial arts based.  They did show me a Left jab, jab, and then a right cross combo to practice.. so I went home with that and got bored of it.  Then I saw Mayorga using that combo all over Delahoya (not that it worked)  and I read about 5 punch combinations.. I was wondering if you could tell me a few combos that I could practice over the next few months till I can afford to go back to the gym. (left jab, right cross, left hook)  Should I jsut go with what feels natural, or make it feel natural?

Answer
Hi Jonathan,

I'll get you started with some combos... Obviously you are right handed if your throwing a left jab so let's start from there... remember this: left jab is a 1 -- the right cross is a 2 -- the left hook is a 3 -- the right uppercut is a 4 -- the left uppercut is a 5 -- and the right hook is a 6

work on the following in this order:

1
1-2
1-2-3
1-1-2
1-1-2-3
2-1

start with these.....when you feel comfortable with your rhythem and form, I'll send you some inside combinations.... and then we'll move on to some more advanced combos...
try to do what feels comfortable for the most part but there are a couple of things that are very important...
keep your elbows tucked in on all straight punches (1's and 2's) .... throw everything from your your shoulders and keep them straight......

good luck,
jack
