Boxing/Cutting weight

Question
What's an effective way to cut a large amount of weight (15-20 pounds)?  I already know I'm capable because I was down at 185 a couple months ago, but the Gym I use to box had a falling out with my trainer.  While we were searching for a new gym, I was out of training for a couple weeks.  So to add to my question, what is a great way to lose fat and not just the average water weight?  Will I lose muscle, also?  Should I take long, slow paced runs or shorter, fast paced runs?  Is jump roping an effective substitute for running on cold days?  Are protein shakes helpful?

Answer
In general weight loss will take place when you eat right.  I recommend a high protein low carbohydrate type diet.  Running fast, slow or just walking is the same benefit when talking just weight loss.  5 miles is 5 miles whether it is walked or runned.  The benefit of running is the cardio you get for your lungs and heart.  Rope jumping is great, and protein shakes are fine if you substitute them for a meal not add to your meals.

Good luck with your training,

Joe
