Question
Hey Joe,
I'm 28 and I just started boxing recently. Always loved the sport but never had the chance to go and finally got myself to do it. Is it bad to use 14oz gloves while sparring? Can I cause any damage to my hands and wrist? I know they're ok for the bag but what about sparring? Also, whats the best way to practice on my form? I tend to pick my elbow up a lot when I throw my right cross when it should just spring out from my position. I get myself frustrated (sorry I wrote so much) can you help?

Thanks Joe!

Answer
Actually 16 oz. gloves are preferred for sparring for you and your opponent.  Just make sure that they are a good quality glove.  You are right do not lift your elbow to thrown straight rights.  You can help this by spinning your rear heal of your foot which turns the hip.  You can go to my website at www.boxingdoneright.com and I have a video on throwing the punch.

Thanks,

Joe
