Question
Im interested in purchasing a heavy bag stand because there is no where to hang a bag in my basement. How good are heavy bag stands? Which one is the best for around $200. I was only able to find 2 stores that sell heavy bag stands. One sold a TKO stand (w/ speed bag platform) for $200 CDN and the other sold a Century stand (w/ speed bag platform) for $200 CDN. Which one of these two do you recommend?

Answer
Hi Kash Mahdi,

My thoughts on Heavy bag stands are mixed. They are better than NO heavybag, and they allow you to get a good workout, but they are difficult to keep stable. The tend to rock and creep along the floor. Without links to see the specific stands you are talking about, I am not sure exactly which ones you mean. If this http://www.net2fitness.com/heavypunchingbagworkoutgym.htm is the TKO stand, and this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00022KJ3E/103-9837342-6549434?v=glance&n=33752... is the Century Model, than I would prefer the century model since the speed bag attachment looks to be sturdier. But the TKO model looks to have attachment hooks for the heavy bag bottom, which will stabilize it. IF you primary purpose is for the heavybag, than either will do pretty well.

Either model needs at least 25 - 50 pounds of weight/sand bags over each of the three floor pods. And hopefully you can actually stabilize the unit by setting the speed bag end up against a wall or corner.

I hope this helps. Good luck with your training.
