Question
Hi,
I live in Wisconsin and am wondering how one goes about becoming a judge or referee.  I've been a fight fan since I was a kid and would love to be involved in the sport in an official capacity.

Answer
Hi Shawn - You would need to get registered with and certified by USA Boxing in your area.  There is a yearly membership dues.  Once certified, you will first learn to time keep.  Once you have become experienced, probably in 3 or 4 months, you can train to become a judge.  You can probably start training to referee in about a year.  Amateur boxing involvement is all volunteer.  If you are interested in pursuing this, please email me at mel@amateurboxing.com and I will send you a contact in Wisconsin.
