Question
Hey my name is Anthony Lee..im 15 and weight 145 and stand 5' 11"..my football coach sed he boxed wen he was a kid and sed i was built to do it..i dont mind takn a hit but i dont no much about the sport and would like as much information as possible..excercises,diets,were to go etc.

Answer
Hi Anthony,  I would suggest finding a golden gloves gym. They have the best training and can get you registered. Go to goldenglovesofamerica.com and click franchises.
The most important thing you can do is start conditioning yourself right off the bat. Boxing is 80% conditioning and 20% fighting. If you go into the gym in shape you will have most of the battle won and it will make your trainer very happy. Just eat normal but try to limit your sugar and soft drinks. You cannot do enough abs. Get the abs tight. This will be the only area that is basically exposed on purpose. Simple because you cannot cover your ribs and abs both with your arms and between the two, more damage can be done to the ribs so you have to protect them first.

Work hard but have fun.

Thanks for the question

I have been in the sport of boxing since 1984. I started as a boxer and advanced quickly. I was lucky enough to have some of the best sparring in the country with 3 top ten pros in my very gym. I am fortunate enough to live near one of the better boxing programs in the country. We have cultivated our facility into the largest Amateur Boxing Gym in the country. In the mid 90's I became a trainer for Golden Gloves. I train amateur and pro fighters. I have worked in many corners at USA and Golden Glove tournaments. I have worked corners in pro bouts on HBO and ESPN cards. My friend, boss and coach is the former President of Golden Gloves and I trained under his tutelage.
