Boxing/Registering as a couch and manager

Question
I have been involved in boxing for over 20 years, started at six. Boxed for a few years no-amateur, non-pro, just event fights. Now I am a little older 28 now, and my passion is still in boxing, but I want to train and manage fighter. How do I go about doing this legally? How do I register myself as a manager, trainer? My hopes is to one day be a promoter as well.
Anything you can give me would be great. I still box and love the sport so what better way to live life huh?

Answer
Hi Chad,

Thanks for the question.
I'm not sure if you're interested in amateur boxing or professional boxing. There are significant differences in registration processes for each.
For professional boxing, you'll need to contact the athletic commission or boxing commission in your state to learn about its process and requirements. For amateur boxing, you need to register as a non-athlete with USA Boxing. There are no "managers" in amateur boxing, but that is the effective function of the coach, for the most part. To contact the registration chairperson for the USA Boxing Local Boxing Committee (LBC) in your area, go to the following address and follow the instructions for registration:

I hope this helps, Chad.
Thanks again for writing!

I can answer questions regarding rules for both pro and amateur boxing; upcoming bouts; fight analysis/predictions; various other questions. I am an experienced amateur boxing official with USA Boxing (14 years) and I have completed a yearlong professional officials` clinic with the California State Athletic Commission.
