Question
Hi Alan, I bought a speedbag platform online and in the mail it was stole. I have the bag and swivel though. I was wondering if you could make your own platform. I see parts i could use around me but i don't know if this can be done. Can you tell me a site or maybe just an idea on making the platform and what materials would work. Thank you

Answer
Hi Mr. Jones,

Sorry your speed bag unit got lost in transit!

You CAN make your own speed bag rebound unit, but it will take some work. the Wood rebound board is easy, if there is a lumbar store available, such as Lowes or Home Depot. Get a 24, 30 or 36in circular table top, for "do-it-yourself" coffee or side tables. This will make a great rebound top.  see a sample here ( scroll down to a picture about a "demilune", with a brown table at the bedside. )

the problem will be the hanging frame hardward,( Need to hold the wood to the wall).  this will have to be designed by you. I have never seen a set of plans for this, but I have seen home made areas. Angle Iron and tubular steel will work. Basically you will need three "parts" in sets of two.  First, a set of stabilizers that will run parallel over, and attach to, the wood. A second set will run vertical up the wall ( preferrably over studs in the wall interior) and third a set of connection brackets that will connect area one to area two. Here is a website that will show the board parts and set up .

note the wall unit (the picture on the right), showing the tubular U-shaped frame that runs over the black board serves as the parallel board attachments AND it is connecting to the vertical wall struts. This is acting as part #1 & #3 in the above description.

this is actually the easiest and quickest way to solve your home issue.  Simply buy another one.  Chances are that this one will not get lost in shipping. Order from this site listed below. I highly recommend them.

Also, browse around Speed Bag Central.com to read about the speed bag parts, setups, tips and how to use it.  It is My new speed bag site dedicated to helping new people set up and learn the bag. and check out the demo videos at:

Good luck and I hope this has answered your question. Many things about equipment, boards, swivels and bags are outlined on my site. Also, be aware that a mid-size 11x8 bag is the largest you want to use on a smaller 24 inch board.  If you like the larger bags, and make your own board, get a 30 or 36in wood tabletop.

By the way, you will need the macromedia Flash viewer to see the top page banner and page menus on the site. It should be detected automatically.

Sincerely,
