Question
Ive been told nothing replaces the guidence of a good trainer, but what if you dont have the time to go to the gym?  I was wondering since I was trained by one of the best trainers in the country, and I know the routine he teaches, can I do the workout at home and still expect moderate gains in skill?   Also do boxing books, DVD's, and videos help?

Answer
Hi James,

I will try to answer your questions.

you asked:

"..I was wondering since I was trained by one of the best trainers in the country, and I know the routine he teaches, (1) can I do the workout at home and still expect moderate gains in skill? Also (2) do boxing books, DVD's, and videos help?"

The answer to both is YES. (1) Your previous experience with a good trainer will always help, although less so if he isn't there anymore, (just ask Tiger Woods. without Butch Harmon in his corner, he has somehow not made it back to the winner circle much..)  Like him, your gains in skill may be modest, be can be done.

(2) Any training materials, be they books, videos or watching others with skill, can be helpful. Finding the legitimate "right sources" is the question. I would suggest you pick and choose carefully.  Videos by KENNY WELDON and JOHN BROWN are two excellent resounces I recommend

http://store.titleboxing.com/video-tapes---books-instructional-videos.html

http://store.titleboxing.com/title-advanced-boxing-technique-videos.html

and training materials at

http://www.ringside.com
(John Brown videos.  He OWNS Ringside and is an excellent coach in his own right.)

the ringside site is currently being updated and I can't access the exact page link. but they have a lot of training materials,

OTHER Good books and training information:

Ross Enamait books
http://www.warriorforce.com/products.html

and

http://www.rossboxing.com/  ( Best Boxing Forum on the NET!)  I read and post there often.
