Boxing/Using the medicine ball for female boxers

Question
Hi Jack,

We recently have had some girls (teenagers) join our boxing Gym. As part of our conditoning we work the stomach with medicine ball drops to condition the stomach for when it is struck by punches.
we are cautious about doing this with the girls due to their different anatomy. Do you know if it is safe for females?

Answer
Hi Martin,   yes it is safe for females.... but rather than dropping the ball into there stomach I would have them stand up and guide the ball into there stomach without letting go....we do this to eliminate that one ball that gets away from you and goes too high... I understand your concerns as I have been thru the same thing for years, just take some extra precautions but keep up the same routines in general as you do the guys because the girls are anduring the same puncishment as the men once they decide to step into the ring....
you could always go a step further and have them wear the chest protectors which are required for sparring and actual bouts....

great question and best of luck....
