Question
Hi Melanie,
First question is, What is the weight class for heavys to compete in amateur or is there a limit in that weight class say for golden gloves? The next question is whats the maximum age to fight amateur, I heard 34 but was told that in a golden glove tournament theres no age group? Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Jim - First of all, Golden Gloves is a group member of USA Boxing and must abide by all the rules governing amateur boxing.  The heavyweight division in amateur boxing is from 179 to 201 Lbs.  Super heavyweight is 201+ lbs.  The maximum age for a boxer to compete in an open, advancing tournament is 34 - that goes for Golden Gloves, as well as any other national tournament in the U.S.  If you know of otherwise, the rules are being broken and that puts our entire insurance program in jeopardy.
