Question
I want to learn how to become a judge for the state of Illinois is there a school where I have to go too. To learn the rules of boxing and how to score a boxing match and where do I get a license.

Answer
Hi Francisco,
Thanks for the question.
The answer to your question depends on whether you're interested in professional boxing or amateur boxing. The two procedures are very different.
Professional boxing licensing is handled by the state's athletic or boxing commission.
For Illinois, that information can be found at this link:

For amateur boxing, you'll need to register with USA Boxing through your Local Boxing Committee (LBC). For you in Illinois, this would be your contact person:
Illinois Association Contact: Louis Rios, Tel. 815-224-4443 or 815481-2867, email riosboxing@ivnet.com
In the amateur program, you'll be expected to study the rulebook, practice judging at local events, and pass a certification test before you would officially be able to judge contests.

I hope this helps, Francisco.
Thanks again for writing!
Regards,
Lian

I can answer questions regarding rules for both pro and amateur boxing; upcoming bouts; fight analysis/predictions; various other questions. I am an experienced amateur boxing official with USA Boxing (14 years) and I have completed a yearlong professional officials` clinic with the California State Athletic Commission.
