Boxing/What about coaching
Expert: Lian Shoemake - 8/27/2006
QuestionHi Lian.
Thankyou very much for you time and your answer to my first question. I still have a few questions that i hope you dont mind answering.
Lets say i register and pay the fees, what do i have to do after. Get a coach right. Do i need to pay him anything( since he will be in my corner right?) And how do the fights get scheduled?
I will need to train, and what is the best way to train and not spend too much money. Personal trainers cost about 850 per month wherever i have checked( I cant afford it). So what are the other alternatives to training. Can you please explain a little as how the amateur boxing system works (coaches, trainers, fights, registered gyms).
Looking forward to your reply.
Thanx.
AnswerHi again Mohammad,
Once you're registered with USA Boxing, you can ask for a list of registered coaches and/or gyms in your area. Usually, you'll have to pay whatever the gyms charge for membership. That amount can vary, but I've never seen any dues anywhere close to $850 per month.
You can get information on upcoming boxing shows from your Local Boxing Committee (LBC). When you go to those shows to compete, you weigh in and get matched with other boxers in your weight, experience and age ranges, if such opponents are available. That's the process in a tiny nutshell.
It's important to be a registered boxer and to train with a registered coach in a registered gym due to insurance coverage.
You can learn about that when you get in touch with your LBC.
I hope that helps, Mohammad.
Best wishes in your imminent amateur career!
Regards,
Lian
