Answer
Hi Neil,

I'm very sorry for the delay but my computer was out of commission for a week.
Very good question...It is important to protect your hands while training, especially in your case when your hands are what puts the bread on the table. I would recommend the 14oz along with a good set of handwraps. Here's what you do, take a small piece of foam at least an inch thick and big enough to cover your knuckles. You are going to put the handwraps on over the foam. The three most important parts of wrapping your hands are the knuckles, the thumb and the wrists. It is easy to bruise your knuckles with a good wrap job. Your thumb is wrapped to keep it secure as you do not want it dangling loose. Your wrist needs to be secure and bascially immobile, you do not want it bending as you make contact with the bag.
I have heard of rival products although I haven't seen them much because I think they are made in Canada. I think it is good stuff and they have leather, make sure your gloves are genuine leather and not synthetic.
I would also suggest ringside.com as they supply most gyms with their equipment. They have good prices and quality stuff. Look for "Top Contender" and "ringside" labels..."Reyes" is also good but a little high.
I hope this helps......thanks for the question
