Boxing/heavy bag gloves

Question
Mr. Rose,

I am very new to boxing.  I am looking for a good quality, moderately priced set of heavybag gloves that really protect my hands.  My hands are not very big and I have small wrists also, this may also factor in my choice.  The bag I will be hitting will most likely be a foam/water heavy bag (because I hear they are easier on the hands).  I saw in one of your previous answers about heavy bag gloves, that you recommended around a 14oz glove.  I had originally been looking at the "Everlast Professional Heavy Bag Gloves" in the 12oz size, paired with the "evergel gloves" to go underneath.  But do you think that these would be an adaquate size and offer good protection?  What would you recommend for me?

Thank You very much for your time and help,
Andrew

Answer
Hi Andrew,
Considering your small wrist and hands I think the 12oz. are a good choice. The evergels are fine but considering your small wrists there will likely be more movement in your wrist joint on impact which you DO NOT want. You want your wrist to remain stiff with very limited flexibility. I good pair of handwraps might be a better choice. Follow the instructions that come with the wraps for wrapping. I don't know where you were looking at gloves but I recommend using ringside.com .... they have the best quality stuff at good prices with a fair return policy. I have no stake in the business, I always suggest it because you can't get quality equipment off the shelf in stores and you need something that will last.
Best of luck, thanks for the question.
