Boxing/heavy bag hanging

Question
I have a 75 lb bag I plan on hanging from a 2x4 from my ceiling.  My plan is to reinforce this 2x4 with two additional 2x4 right next to the mounting surface.  Also, I'm planning to run a 2x4 (or bigger piece of wood) perpindicular to this reinforced beam.

Does this sound good? Do you have any other recommendations?  Advice?

Answer
Hello Eddie,

Without seeing the setup, house or specific area, it is impossible for me to say it is "good" or "enough" or how safe it is to hang a heavy bag. Remember, the bag may bounce upward and swing widely. The bag movement will put slack in the chain which will bounce fairly hard depending on how hard you punch or kick. And if you are a power puncher/kicker, the light 75lb bag could really move a lot.

I would be sure and have plenty of additional support on this 2x4. In general I haven't seen many 2x4 hanging solutions work. The length of span of a ceiling 2x4 puts long sections without real support.

I don't think I would do that, and I suggest you proceed with caution on that description.  But good luck with your decision.
