Question
I am shopping for a heavy bag for my husband and myself, for some strength training and cardio...what lb bag would you suggest?  I am 5ft 7in 145 lbs, and my husband is 6ft 180 lbs.

Answer
HI Jane,

I believe you would do well with a 70-80lb bag, but you also need to consider where and how you will hang it, as well as what material you want to use. First, if you hang it, (not a floor mounted bag) make sure the wall and hanging brackets can take that much weight.  As for the type of material, many people really like the soft filled foam core bags  http://www.ringside.com/DETAIL.ASPX?ID=25259
and the water filled bags  http://www.ringside.com/detail.aspx?ID=25873
they are more forgiving on the wrists, elbows and shoulders.

If you are not an experienced boxer or punch-hardened trainer, go with the softer filled bags to make it more forgiving on your untrained hands and wrists.

Good luck with your bag choice and training.

sincerely,
