Boxing/What muscles do you use when throwing a punch?

Question
Hey, I'm a 16 yr. old who avidly lifts worksout & I pack a pretty hard punch. But, what muscles do we use when we throw punches.
Thank you.

Answer
Jared,   the muscles you use the most would be your obliques and your abs...they are used everytime you throw a punch...the rotation of your trunk and your upper body during a punch determines how hard and fast the punch will be....so the more muscle you have in the ab and oblique area the more potential you have for speed and power....of course your form has to be correct as well....
Also your back, shoulders and chest play a big role as well....your legs are important too but muscular endurance is more important in legs than actual strength unless you are a heavyweight...and then strong legs become much more important.... and don't forget neck...the thicker and strong your neck, the better....when you get hit you don't want your head to snap around, you want it to remain as stationary as possible so that your brain does not get jossled around...

great question....keep up the good work in the weightroom, it will payoff in everything you do, not just boxing....

later,
