Question
I recently purchased my own punching bag and gloves for home use instead of paying monthly to go to the gym, the only problem is that i dont have a Bag stand and i dont want to hang it from the ceiling of my room because im not sure if it will be supported well enough. My question is if you know how to build a home made bag stand? the bag is about 50 pounds, and i have a bench press/home gym which has the pull down bar but is not being used. What do you think maybe i can use that ?

Answer
Hi Snyder,

It is frustrating to have a heavybag and no place to hang it....

Without seeing your location or your home gym in person, I would be hestitant to say how you can hang it or if your bench apparatus would hold it. If it is light grade steel I wouldn't trust it, for the 50lb weight will be magnified when it starts swinging and jerking on the chain.
I would only recommend a legitimate heavybag hanging apparatus, this http://www.ringside.com/detail.aspx?ID=25773
or http://www.ringside.com/DETAIL.ASPX?ID=24649
or perhaps something like this:

you certainly don't want to damage your wall or worse, injure yourself - by a poorly hung heavy bag. Try and find a location that has good solid beam support or perhaps a location outside that you can use on a temporary basis.

Good luck and I hope this helps you.
