Question
we would like to no the steps in finding a trainer 4 my son. he wants 2 get ready for dec. but we find ourselves with little resourses. could you help??

Answer
Hello Roberto,

The steps to finding a "legitimate" boxing trainer are basically find a dedicated boxing coach or boxing program, usually located in a dedicated boxing gym. This is essential for someone who plans of actually competing in legitimate (organized and sanctioned) amatuer boxing tournaments, like golden gloves or other state, regional tournaments.  There is no short cut to this. Your son will need qualified coaching in a location that has well disciplined training partners and enthusiatic coaches who will focus on training safely while watching your sons health and progress.  NO boxing coach uses the tactics to let some kids get use "to taking a beating" or let other with more experience "initiate him" painfully by working him over. No one should have to go through that mentality runs off or scares many entry level students. A legitimate boxing program will not let that happen, nor will it tolerate any kids who think that is what it is about.

I don't know where you live, so here is a website with Gym listings

Find a gym in your location.

Unfortunately, training like this often costs money and I'm not sure what the prices at some of these gyms are.  Some community centers have programs for less money.  Unless you are a well trained boxing coach, with knowledge of competition rules, then home training is not something you can really do yourself.

Good luck and I hope you find a local gym for your son.  It's a great sport when done correctly.

sincerely
