Boxing/speed bag mount with large metal ring

Question
I just bought your book on Amazon.

There is a speed bag and mount for sale on ebay that has a ring instead of a round board. Is this missing something or is it is a different type of a mount for a speed bag? Would you recommend this or should I get a real mounting board. I like it as it is oak and would look good in my rec room.

Thanks,

Tom Curtis

P.S. I hope you won't bid on it after getting a heads up on this auction.

Answer
Hi Tom,

Yes, rebound rings are a different type of mount and you don't see it much anymore. They  were a lot more popular years ago but seem to have fallen out of favor.  The problem with a metal rebound ring is that the radius of the ring limits the size of the bag you can use.

needs to hit the "board" or "ring". A board will allow you to use most bags of any size, but a ring will only allow bags that fit properly from the swivel to the ring, - maybe only one or two size bags.  Boards are much more versatile.

Here is a link to some Speed Bag Equipment on my website,

Look underneath the top "equipment" menu and you will see the pages for "setups" and "companies".

Good Luck and train safe.  My suggestion: Stick with a Standard board. Here is my own personal favorite.  Great board and extremely quick adjustments for height. ( Maybe a little overkill for the house, but great for a club.)
