Question
how high do you put the bag? does it matter? if i am 5'11" how much higher than me should it be?

Answer
Hi bill,

It does matter how high you put the bag because if it is at the wrong height you will practice an incorrect punching motion, and be limited in what combinations you can do.

To find the best height, stand in you normal speed bag punching position. the Belly ( fatest part of the bag ) should be located in the area of you mouth. It can be from the chin to nose area.  much higher of lower than this will cause swinging adaptions that are disadvantageous to you.  A little higher is probably better than a little lower, and most boxers like it a little higer when practicing for a taller opponent. They also think it is better to have it higher to work the shoulders more. I think the shoulders get a better workout if the bag is at the proper height for the user and you keep it going longer.

so, put the bag belly at about mouth level and you will be in good shape.

thanks for your question. Ask again if you feel I can help you further.

sincerely
