Boxing/speed bag sizes

Question
Alan, I've checked numerous forums, boxing equipment sites, etc. and my question concerns speedbag sizes.  Some sites or forums list a bag 6x9 or 9x6 (for example the Everlast bag 4200)  Is it a 9x6 or a 6x9? I"m planning on buying a smaller bag than the Everlast 4210 (11x8) and I thought a 9x6 would be a step down.  I was also looking at the Everlast pro bags on the Title site.  I"m just confused on the sizes listed. Is a 8x5 the same as a 5x8.

Answer
Hi Chris,

I think I saw your post on http://www.speedbagforums.com about the same subject.

Speed bag sizes, such as 9x6 and 6x9 mean the same thing. Different manufactures list by the larger number first, some by the smaller.

But although the SIZE of the bag may be the same, The SHAPES of the bag may be slightly different. By that I mean that the Everlast, Titleboxing and Ringsideboxing (and various others) speed bags may be listed by a similiar size, say 11x8 or 8x11, but the shape of each bag will differ from each other. Some are longer and narrow, some are short and fatter, and listed by similiar sizes.

There is little uniformity among their shapes.

If you are a beginner, going down to the 9x6 bag then I suggest you inflate it just a bit less than full. That will slow it down a bit and make it easier to control. Or, hit it very lightly. That is a fast bag.

I hope this answers your question. thanks for asking

sincerely,
