Question
I am doing a project on mother's in the media before the year 2000. I came across the brady bunch show and was wondering how exactly they are trying to portray carol brady.

Answer
Dianna- I think that the show's producers were trying to portray her as the typical mom of the 60's and 70's. She stayed at home with the kids while the father worked. I think that most shows either in that time period or which were set at the time did the same thing. They wanted viewers to connect with the show (oh wow thats just like my house, My dad drives the same car) In the 60's and 70's most moms were stay at home moms who did the sewing and cooking and took care of the kids. The only thing that was not typical was that not many middle class homes had a maid. So viewers could relate to the Brady Bunch because that was the way their life most likely was. Although the show is still popular in reruns today it is seen as dated. Although many moms today also may stay at home they are also out there working and doing many other things and thus are portrayed as such in the shows of today. I hope this helps.
