Question
I have a history of migraine headaches and lately I have started to see lights flashing in my eyes and then I get a horrible headache, but sometimes the lights are there and no headache. This is so scary and the other night I thought I was about to pass out! Is the flashing lights a sign the headache is coming? Is that normal? Why would I see lights before a headache? Do you think that I could have a brain tumor or aneurysm? Please help me I am so terrified!
Dear Robin, I'm a medical oncologist & radiation therapist (a cancer dr.) with experience of treating brain tumors but I'm not a neurologist or a neurosurgeon. To me your symptoms sound as rather typical migraine symptoms that we already know that you have. But I strongly do suggest that you let a neurologist check you! A brain MRI scan can easily confirm or eliminate your fears of a brain tumor as the source of your symptoms. Good luck!
