Brain Tumors/RE: Eye exam suggests a brain tumor

Question
My husband had a retina detachment 17 years ago and goes to the eye doctor every 3-6 months.  He went today and they want him to go for MRI to check for brain tumor; is this common and how often is a brain tumor connected to retina detachment.  The doctor said if they can rule out a brain tumor then he will redo test on optic nerve.  The doctor said the test they did on him today was the same as his last visit and he could not explain what he saw on all of this test.  I guess I am just worried and wanted to know what are the chances he might have a brain tumor.  He has always had headaches since he was young but nothing that seems very bad.  I would appreciate your help.  Thank you.

Answer
It has certainly no connection to his retina detachment. I have had that myself in both eyes and I'm not worried. What his dr. may have seen can be signs that may be interpreted as signs of increased intracranial pressure which in turn may be a sign of a brain tumor. But this is only an educated guess from my side. An MRI scan of his brain should provide all necessary answers. Good luck! Please do keep me posted!
