QUESTION: hi, my daughter of 25 has just been diagnosed with anaplastic oligodendroglioma grade 3 ,it is located on the front left side of her brain.we have not been told too much only that it is not curable but they can keep on treating it, i need to arrange my life now to suit this situation as she has 2 young children, can you tell me what to expect please.many thanks

ANSWER: Before answering your question I would like to know what her drs. have suggested should be done with regards to therapy? If I know what is planned for her it will be easier to answer.

QUESTION: hi, they have said that she is to have another operation to remove as much as they can then to have radiation treat ment followed i think by chemotherapy.

Answer
Yes that is more or less standard treatment. Radiation therapy AND chemo therapy in combination is better than radiation therapy alone. But even with full therapy like this her tumor is not curable. Her illness is eventually fatal but with full therapy her survival time can be substantially increased. By how much in an individual case like this is unfortunately impossible to predict. But she can be reasonably sure to live a number of years. That is unfortunately all that it is possible to tell you!
