Question
My brother in law had the above-mentioned brain tumor and is now deceased.  He went through all treatments and unfortuntely lost his battle 1 year later.  My question is, is this hereditary.  His unlce on his Mom's side has now also been diagnosed with the same brain tumor.  My brother in law was 44 when diagnosed & his uncle is 68.  My conern is will his children have to have MRI's to look for any early signs of this cancer.

Answer
The causes of malignant brain tumors are completely unknown. The general concensus at present is that there are no hereditary factors involved. I do not KNOW if that is true. This situation may be a coincidence. But on the other hand his drs. should be made aware of the situation and direct their efforts accordingly.
