Question
My sister was just diagnosed in the e.r. with a meningioma measuring 2.2 x 2.1 cm on ct located on the floor of the left mid cranial fossa abutting the cavernous sinus medially showing a small amount of edema in the left temporal lobe.  She is symptomatic with Ptosis, erratic BPs, very edematous legs and now tearing in her eyes.  The MRI measured it at 2.0x2.3x2.2 cm.  I am concerned about the location.  I am a RN with some neuro and or experience but have been in maternity for the past 8 years.  My sister is medically naive.  She lives in Winston salem and I referred her to Wake Forest from what I could find on the web.  Any advice appreciated.  What should we expect?

Answer
I'm a medical oncologist and radiation therapist with experience of treating brain tumors, but not a neurosurgeon. So I do suggest that you direct this question to an expert of neurosurgery since therapy for this kind of tumors is mainly surgical. Ye its location may probably be tricky. Radiological treatment with the GammaKnife or the CyberKnife or by proton beams may be possible too and at least the size of this tumor makes it a suitable target for such treatment. But first of all this should be discussed with a neurosurgeon!
