Question
Today we were told that my husband aged 50 had a Grade 4 malignant brain tumour - secondary. Tumour resected last weekend.Tiny piece left behind as attached to major blood vessel in sensory area.  Tumour resected from motor area.  3 cm.  Consultant said very unusual tumour ? sarcoma. We await next Tues for hopefully true diagnosis. I cannot find very much on any websites relating to brain sarcomas.  I would be very grateful if you could help me try & understand what sort of prognosis lies ahead.  Many thanks.

Answer
If indeed it is a sarcoma there it has most probably spread to this location from somewhere else in his body where in that case he has a primary tumor not yet detected. A sarcoma somewhere that also has spread to the brain (and if it has spread to somewhere like this it may also have spread to elsewhere though not detected - or even detectable - yet) is a very serious matter indeed with at least a very doubtful prognosis. His pathologist has to establish if this is a sarcoma, what kind of sarcoma (important for trying to find the primary tumor) it is and his drs. have to try to find the primary and look for any signs that it has spread to somewhere else. Based on this they will have to treat him. Unfortunately at least at present this procedure looks difficult. And his prognosis is probably bad unfortunately. This is a most uncommon situation! I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
