Brain Tumors/meningioma - 6 weeks post resection

Question
My wife Nadine had a satsuma sized benign meningioma resected from her frontal lobe. After surgery she lost sight in her left eye, has no sense of taste or smell and developed 2 DVT's. She's at home now. She complains of a nasty taste at the back of her throat (last 3 weeks)and was re-admitted last week for CSF leaking from her nose. She has recently started losing feeling in her left and right arm accompanied by pins and needles. The neurosurgeon assures me this is unconnected to the operation. Is this true? She also has headaches over both eyes and her affected eye swells occasionally. I think I want reassuring that these symptoms are not serious. Please help?

Answer
I'm a medical oncologist & radiation therapist with experience of treating brain tumors but I'm NOT a neurosurgeon! The nasty taste (connected to her CSF leakage) and that CSF leakage itself were definitely in some way connected to her surgery. Probably also her left sided blindness in some way. However these effects may not have been the result of malpractice. They may have been unavoidable. I'm worried though by her arm symptoms and her eye symptoms! I strongly do suggest a second opinion by another neurosurgeon soonest! Good luck!
