Expert: Claes-Gustaf Nordquist, M.D. - 10/18/2009

Question
Hi in dec 07 i had a left pneumnectomy as was diagnosed with nsclc at stage 2b i had chemotherapy then i fell pregnant about 7 months later and about 37 weeks i kept getting headaches an other symptoms, but were being masked by the pregnancy.I had an mri done to find i had a brain tumour. In which i had a emergency cesarean then 2 days later i had the tumour removed, it was in the back of my head at the bottom of the cerbellum, and the doc said it was about the size of a ping pong ball. They said it was a secondary from the lung.i know the prognosis isnt good but how long would you say i have. Thanks

Answer
A straight question deserves a straight answer even if disturbing. When exactly was your brain surgery? Did you have any postsurgical radiation therapy to your brain? Any chemotherapy?  Usually when secondary brain tumors due to a lung cancer (not an uncommon thing) appear survival time after surgery can be measured in months to a year. That can however be modified by radiation therapy and chemotherapy. However I have yet to report any certain cure. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
