Question
QUESTION: Hi,
My Father, aged 63, has recently be diagnosed with a malingnant brain tumor. I'm sorry but I'm unaware of the tumor's type or grading at the moment, but I do know that it is not possible for it to be removed by an operation due to the tumor location.

He will undergo 5/6 weeks of Radiotherapy treatment (which will begin soon) followed by some Chemotherapy treatment.

I'm I correct in thinking that the tumor is incurable and that the treatment he will recieve is probably just in an attempt to prolong his life?

Could you possibly give me an idea of how long he can realistically expect to live. Thankyou

ANSWER: You are most probably correct. Without knowing the exact brain tumor diagnosis, its grade, size & exact location it is impossible to give you any kind of life span evaluation unfortunately.

QUESTION: I have since found out that it is a Oligodendrogliomas tumor and it's grade 3 if that helps.

Answer
Those tumors have a somewhat better prognosis than most other malignant brain tumors. But better here only in a relative sense since most such tumors have a really nasty prognosis. And the fact that it is inoperable and a rather malignant grade 3 will not help. So AT MOST a few years. Quite possibly quite shorter.
