Question
Our 24-yr old daughter recently underwent 2nd resection of left frontal lobe tumor.  First one was an Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma only.  6 months after 2 yrs on Temodar, tumor returned.  2nd surgery in Jan '09. Tumor contains cells of A.O, Astrocytoma, PNET...6 weeks of radiation, daily Temodar and Avastin drip every 2 weeks.  No 1P19Q chromosome.  What are her chances for survival?  Thank you. KJ

Answer
While low grade oligodendroglioma cases can live many years a high grade (anaplastic) tumor case of this kind normally lives around 3-4 years from diagnosis. Here we now have to deal with a mixed tumor which also includes cells of the astrocytoma type. That does not help the situation regardless of grade or the genetic situation. The behaviour of her tumor unfortunately supports that. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
