Question
Dear Dr.Claes-Gustaf Nordquist

My name is Jack and I am writing from mainland of China.

My mom has done three surgeries for her meningioma. Her first opeation (atypical meningioma) was in July 2003 followed by radiation therapy (45 Gy), and the second surgery was in December 2008 (anaplastic meningioma). She started the second radiation therapy on March 9th for 8 times (16 Gy). Due to another recurrency following her MRI two months after the surgery in December 2008 she needed to do another operation. She had her third operation on April 7th 2009 and is now recovering.

I urgently would like to know if any chemotherapy can prevent the tumor recurrence. I read some articles and they mention Temodar, Avastin, Hydroxyureau, etc.

Also, based on her medical records, would you think what her radiation therapy treatment plan? Does she need any more radiation?

Thank you very much and I look forward to hearing from you.

Jack

Answer
There is an upper limit to how much radiation that can be given so it is most uncertain if any more meaningful radiation therapy can be given.
Yes it MAY be possible to give her chemotherapy instead. But you must discuss that with her drs. as I know far too little of her case in order to give any detailed advice on that matter.
