Question
QUESTION: hello My 62 year old mom was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme in november 2008.She is a smoker and does not really excersize.she is quite thin only weighing approximatley 95 lbs.can you tell me what her survival approximatley is with this disease....the doctors told us they can only tell us if she gives us permission and she is refusing.she thinks she will live 20 more years ...thankyou.

ANSWER: This kind of tumor does have a very bad prognosis indeed! Regardless of treatment she has a most probable survival time of at most one to two years from her primary treatment but it may be shorter. ALL patients with this tumor die of it (unless they die from something else before that). NO ONE survives it and there is at present NO cure. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!

QUESTION: Hello...i was just wondering then she has had chemo temodol and radiation and a resection of the tumor already does that mean that it is still that survival approximatley?thankyou.

Answer
Yes unfortunately. That is why I did write "regardless of treatment...".
At present no cure is possible. Treatment prolongs the survival time somewhat and decreases symptoms somewhat and temporarily but again no cure is at the moment possible. The time estimate I gave you includes these treatment effects.
