Brain Tumors - Oligodendroglioma Tumor

Expert: Claes-Gustaf Nordquist, M.D. - 6/9/2009

Question
I asked a question a few days ago..sorry just one more. Husband diagnosed with Oligodendroglioma tumor, had surgery in 2007... When he had 1st surgery, tumor was found to be low grade, slow growing and they said he must have had this for many years-and would probably be long time before it would grow back...now on opposite side of brain, but how could it now change to be so different(high grade and now more aggressive)I have had comments that because he had surgery and 'they opened him up and air got to the cancer', this is what caused it to spread, is this true? Also, do you think the Temodal will help shrink this tumor or slow it from growing so fast? Thank you for your time and expertise!

Answer
No previous treatment had nothing to do with this. It is NOT unusual for malignant brain tumors to become more aggressive and to spread within the brain. Temodal will be of some help but ONLY temporarily. Unfortunately no cure is at present possible.

I went back and checked my previous reply to you. But it seems you have not read it. In it I tried to give you needed information! Please read it!
