Brain Tumors - Secondary brain tumor from a primary lung cancer

Expert: Claes-Gustaf Nordquist, M.D. - 6/9/2009

Question
My Dad of 53 Has lung cancer. It could not all be removed from the chest wall, and whilst he should have been recovering he got empiemia and a host of other problems which delayed the radiotheraphy. As a result he now has secondary bone and brain cancer, as well as some legions on his liver. In this last week he is deteriorating by the day. He cannot walk/balance. His speech is so slurred it is hard to understand him and he is dribbling now too. He is on 20mg of decadron, which is not helping at all. The hospice nurse has admitted him back to hospital today for test. Like everyone i want to know how much time we have as a family left? Oh, Mum also said that his urine in now 'tea' coloured too.

Answer
His survival time will most probably be determined by his brain lesions (lung cancers often spread to the brain). Based on that he brobably only has at most a couple of monts or even a few weeks left to live. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
