Question
My husband was diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer on June 2nd. The
cancer has spread to his liver (3 lesions) and brain (4 lesions). He is
considering insulin potentiation therapy (IPT), which involves lowering the
patients blood sugar to 20, and following with glucose and low dose chemo.I
am concerned about that the impact of low blood sugar on his brain tumors.
Can you tell me if this is a real concern, and explain why?
This treatment can at best be described as very experimental. I have no personal experience of it. I'm not aware of any clinical or scientific evidence supporting its use. Except maybe speculations based on the sugar metabolism of cancers. Does his oncologist approve of this treatment? Or is this something your husband has started on his own? In this situation his prognosis is extremely bad regardless of treatment so he may consider himself not having anything to lose. I would prefer radiation therapy to his brain but that can not cure him either. In this situation nothing that is known can unfortunately.
