Brain Tumors/One Shot Therapy

Question
Hello Dr. Nordquist,

I have an acquaintance who was recently diagnosed with a brain and lung tumor and all that I've found out was that doctors thought the tumors were malignant and a biopsy was performed on each tumor.

The only other information that I've heard is that he is in a hospital receiving a "one shot" treatment and if I'm not mistaken, it is the brain that is receiving this.

I realize from your position that you cannot give a definitive diagnosis but could you present some possibilities as to what type of tumor or condition that may be involved here with this one-shot treatment and how serious this might be?

His family seems to not be saying much to others about it.

Thank you very much.

Mark P.

Answer
It is probably a lung cancer that has spread to the brain - rather common. He is probably receiving radiation therapy to his brain. However even with that treatment his probable survival time can probably be measured in months - or even shorter - certainly not in years. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
