Question
My brother has just come out of an operation for the removal of a 25mm brain tumour.  He has melanoma and has had his lymph nodes and numerous other tumours removed.  The  operation was a success and he has no paralysation or noticeable side effects.  He has a 35mm tumour in his stomach and another one under his arm, the stomach is a worry as it is aggressive, these are secondary tumours the main one was in his lymph nodes which was removed, when will they remove the stomach tumour and the other lymph one?  Also will they keep coming back?

Answer
Dear Dawn, I'm sorry to have to inform you that your brother - if your information is correct - has a stage 4 malignant melanoma that has spread to different parts of his body including his brain. Even if his brain lesion has been removed these lesions will come back and even spread further. This kind of cancer is also not very sensitive to radiation therapy and chemotherapy. So it will be very difficult or impossible to control. A stage 4 cancer is at present also incurable. So the matter of his primary lesion is more or less academic. I estimate his remaining survival time to be at most measured in months perhaps even shorter. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
