Question
About 3 months ago my dad had brain surgery, he had a cancerous brain tumor on the brain stem, after surgery the smell of food makes him vomit and he went from 250 pounds to 150 pounds to this day he still throws up when he smells food and won't eat.He is currently at UCLA hospital. Any ideas on what is going on?

Answer
This is a question that is better directed to a neurologist or maybe to a neurosurgeon (I'm a medical oncologist & radiation therapist with experience of treating - mainly malignant - brain tumors not a neurologist or a neurosurgeon). However the centers for nausea and vomiting are located in the brain close to where his tumor was. So a certain damage to those centers is quite possible. Have any drugs been tried to control this? If not they should be tried. What other treatment is he receiving/will he receive? Radiation therapy? Chemotherapy?
