Question
15 yr old male with the diagnosis of thalamic glioma.  48mm mass in the basal ganglia found on Feb 9, 2009.  He has undergone chemo and radiation.  Mass had shrank as shown on 2 consecutive MRIs.  MRI on Tuesday shows tumor growth.  Prognosis? LIkelihood of survival??

Answer
Since it has started to grow again his prognosis is probably bad. So there is unfortunately a low probability of any long time survival. Survival time depends on the grade of his tumor which I do not know. Do you? With this location surgery is not an option and his tumor was from the beginning probably too big for stereotactic radiation.
