Brain Tumors/Left Temporal Lobe Meningioma - Post Gamma Knife

Question
QUESTION: Hello Sir -

My father was diagnosed with left temporal lobe meningioma around 7 months back. He also had immense swelling in that region. He was on medicines for 3 months. Due to lack in memory and confusion doctor suggested us to go for Gamma Radiation. We got it done around 4 months back. His condition post gamma treatment has worsened. At times he is silent, at times he is panick, at times he is aggressive. Every day its a different behaviour. Doctor now adviced us to stop any medicine (for swelling or seizures). He is not taking any medicine as those induced lot of side effects. Now he is showing psychiatric symptoms. We are really scared. Will this be ok in some time as soon as the swelling reduces. Please help, we have been in touch with many doctors but has not recieved a convincing reply yet.

Thanks,
Mukta

ANSWER: How big was his meningioma? Because these symptoms do not make sense to me! I need that information to be able to do some kind of evaluation.

QUESTION: The volume of the meningioma 5 cumic cms. The size was detected as 26*20*20 mm.

The symptoms basically I feel is due to excessive boredom. He doesnt involve himself into any kind of activity. I ask him continuously to either read magazines, newspapers, watch television. But he says I am confused. WIll this confusion ever go. What is that I have to do now, please suggest.

Answer
With that size it should be ideal for GammaKnife treatment! I see no reason to believe that his meningioma (which should now be gone) or his treatment in any way are causing these symptoms. So your theory may very well be right. But let his neurologist check him to be on the safe side. Good luck!
