Question
My sister had her first symptom of tingling in the face 7 weeks ago. She had been diagnosed with astrcytoma and they are unsure of the Grade but definitely at least a 2. The tumours are inoperable. She has lost left gross and fine motor skills, some memory loss and now difficulties with vision. Every few days there is a new symptom that we deal with. Apart from shock and grief and anger this is a very rapid and intense time. How do people cope with the rapidity of change and the exhaustion. hers and ours? Can it get worse? Why are the doctors reluctant to prepare us for the worst?

Answer
Well they have to. It is hard to run away from reality. It has a habit of reaching you whatever you do to avoid it. Unfortunately it can. It very often - most of the times - ends in death. Well they too are humans. It is hard to tell people bad news. It is easier for me since I'm just writing this and I do not meet you in person. Besides I have a long time as a pathologist, as a police surgeon and medical examiner and as a military doctor behind me. That makes you tougher even if you do not want to.
