Question 14 months ago my brother-in-law (50 yrs old) was Dx'd with a 6cm x 7 cm astrocytoma in his left temporal lobe. Surgey removed less than 10%. Since then has gone thru radiation as the same time with Temodar. Now strictly on Temodar. Last MRI shows the part that was removed is starting to grow back already. Current dose of Temodar is 5 days on, 28 days off. Dr. has suggested we try 21 days on and 7 days off. Will give this 3 months and if that doesn't work, move to Avastin. We feel the Dr doesn't have much confidence in the increase regiment at this time. Do you think it will help. Dr. has said the Temodar is no longer working at its current regiment. How much faith do you have in the Avastin? I know how everything will end, but can you give us any time frame knowing the small part that was removed is already growing back and the current dosage of Temodar is not working?
Answer Based on the GRADE of his tumor and what else you have told me I ESTIMATE (but as all estimates there are some uncertainties here) his remaining life span to be measured in months at most regardless of treatment, even though the suggested treatments MAY slow down the process somewhat - but not more than that. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
